JD on Fans & inspiration of 'Get Up'

NME: Speaking to Kerrang!, Jonathan Davis said he and his band were tired of being known as "the godfathers of nu metal" and that some of their fans were "stuck in 1994".

Asked if he was worried about people's reaction to 'The Path Of Totality', Davis replied: "People are going to be pissed about this record. That's made me even more excited about it. I don't give a flying fuck what people think. We can't win with Korn fans. Some are so stuck in 1994."

The singer also blasted people who wanted his band to simply rehash their older material and said they were sick of their tag as the inventors of the nu-metal genre. He said: "Everybody calls us the godfathers of nu-metal and I'm fucking tired of that. We don't want to join the nostalgia circuit. Us, Limp Bizkit, Staind or some shit like that. Fuck that."

The singer added that he believed his band had invented a new genre of music on the album, which he calls "future metal" and revealed that the band's recent single 'Get Up' was inspired by his hatred of everybody moaning about the recession.

He said of this: 'Get Up' is about the recession. I wish everyone would shut the fuck up and have some fun. Every day I've got to hear about unemployment and people starving.

"Narcissistic Cannibal" due October 18th

According to a chat with Jonathan Davis and KoRn Space, KoRn's latest single will be released on October 18th, 2011. It may be released on iTunes first as other websites are claiming that the single will be released on November 08th for radio play.

Munky talks about Edgar Allan Poe

ARTISTdirect: Edgar Allan Poe could've been a rock star.

With even one glance at The Raven, it's clear that he had knack for rhythm. There's a lyrical quality to his short stories as well. Poe managed to capture the attention of his readers through concise macabre tales much like records. In addition, he existed on the fringe of popular culture similar to the rock musicians of our time. It's no surprise that so many bands will cite the legendary author and his work as a major influence.

In order to further uncover the connection between Edgar Allan Poe and rock 'n' roll, we spoke to a myriad of different artists about when they discovered Poe, what they enjoy about his work, and the effect that it left on them.

Everybody from Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers to James "Munky" Shaffer of Korn and Fear and the Nervous System had an Edgar Allan Poe story. Budding rockers take note—reading Poe's work may very well be a rite of passage to superstardom.

Jonathan Davis on Steve Jobs

KORN frontman Jonathan Davis has been making music on Apple's Mac computers for years, and so The Pulse Of Radio asked him for his thoughts on the passing of Apple's visionary co-founder Steve Jobs, who died on Wednesday (October 5) at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer. Davis said about the technology pioneer: "He took a company that basically was bankrupt and turned it around and made it a lifestyle, plain and simple. I think the guy was a genius. And then I love his products. I'm not an iPhone user, I hate iPhones, but I use my iPad and my iPod Touch, all my producing and recording is done on my Macs . . . all this stuff he made is amazing. I'm bummed that he died and, you know, my heart goes out to his family and Apple, and I hope that they can carry on his legacy."

Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976 and left the company 10 years later. When he returned a decade after that, he set about transforming it into the biggest and most innovative tech business in the world.

The iPod has changed the way we keep and listen to music, while the iTunes store permanently altered the way in which people buy songs and albums.

KoRn touring with Downlink and Datsik

KORN is releasing a dubstep album on November 15th title ‘The Path To Totality’. So, it should come as no surprise that the band is actually touring with dubstep acts this fall. While no confirmation has been given, dates have begun to trickle out that have KORN headlining with guests such as DATSIK and DOWNLINK, prominent dubstep artists, on select dates. I think this could actually be pretty cool seeing that KORN have less in common with metal these days and have transitioned into a scene that could most certainly enjoy this.

I’m stoked to hear ‘The Path To Totality’ and I’m even more excited to see them on this tour when it comes to New York’s Roseland Ballroom on November 4th!

Skrillex on division between dubstep fans

Skrillex has been dividing opinions amongst dubstep fans, especially since teaming up with Korn on their new dubstep-influenced album, ’The Path Of Totality’.

Speaking to the Guardian, Skrillex said: "I don't even try to make 'dubstep'. It's just another tempo and rhythm that I work in, because it makes people go wild."

Despite any backlash he has received for such views, Skream has stood up for him, citing that his “production is so fucking clean but twisted” and that he's “shaken everything up without even knowing it. He's almost done to dubstep what me and Benga did to garage."

KoRn's video premiered this week – you can watch the video for their single ’Get Up’ below. The album, which will be released on December 5, will also feature dubstep producers Excision, Datsik, Noisia, Kill The Noise and 12th Planet.

Korn’s bassist Fieldy previously revealed to NME that frontman Jonathan Davis got the rest of the band into dubstep, saying: “We feel it's important to stay current and keep on top of what's going on."

'The Path of Totality' to be released Dec. 6th!

Korn announced today that they will release their tenth studio album, The Path of Totality on Dec. 6.

But this one is unlike any Korn record. It's even unlike any record released before.

How so? Well, The Path of Totality is an experimental album which finds Korn shifting gears and exploring new territory. That should hardly come as a shock to the band's diehard fans, as Korn exploded onto the scene in the'90s and established themselves as hard rock game changers from that point on.

For The Path of Totality, the band collaborated with some of the leading dubstep and electronic producers in the world, including Skrillex, Excision, Datsik, Noisia, Kill the Noise, and 12th Planet. The result is something completely new, yet utterly and definitively Korn. Leave it to a band like Korn to continue to reinvent itself two decades deep into its career.

"The title The Path of Totality refers to the fact that in order to see the sun in a full solar eclipse, you must be in the exact right place in the exact right time," Korn frontman Jonathan Davis explained. "That's how this album came together. I think all the producers feel the same way. I'm not sure it could ever happen again."

The band's recent (and much lauded) collaboration with dubstep's hottest producer, Skrillex, titled "Get Up!," was the surprise rock hit of the summer, the buzz of which started in Coachella's dance tent in April 2011, when Jonathan and Munky joined Skrillex on stage for a show stealing unannounced performance of the song.

That performance generated the start of a deafening buzz. The track has sold over 150,000 downloads, while the lyric video has generated nearly two million views and counting.

Added James "Munky" Shaffer: "'Get Up' started as a bit of an experiment, but we had such an amazing response from our fans and had such a great time collaborating that a full album of tracks came together in a couple of months. We couldn't wait to get to the studio every day to finish the next song."

Some of the song titles from The Path of Totality are: "Narcissistic Cannibal", "Burn The Obedient." "Illuminati," "Kill Mercy Within," and "Chaos Lives In Everything."

The album will be released in two configurations: as a standard 11-song CD and a special edition CD that will include bonus tracks as well as a DVD of The Encounter, a full length video concert of Korn's mind-blowing, once in a lifetime performance in the middle of a 900-foot long crop circle in a wheat field in Bakersfield. The complete concert, previously seen last year on TV and online in an abbreviated form, will be offered in its entirety to those who purchase the deluxe version.

Additionally, Korn announced that the first leg of their "Path of Totality (P.O.T.)" tour will play key ballrooms and feature dubstep DJ's Datsik and Downlink, as well as young upstart Dutch Dub-rockers Dope D.O.D. Expect a groundbreaking experience unlike any other Korn tour.

Tickets to some of the shows go on sale this weekend to the general public, but pre-sale and brand new VIP packages are available starting Wednesday at noon ET exclusively at korn.com.
