"Get Up" review

Korn "Get Up" Review — 5 out of 5 stars - ARTISTdirect News: Korn are hard rock's most prescient trendsetters.

Ever since their groundbreaking self-titled debut, they've always been ahead of the game. Their earliest work blurred the lines between hip hop, funk, and heavy metal, and now they're infusing dubstep and electronic music seamlessly into their patented style. "Get Up" featuring dubstep wizard Skrillex shakes with an unbridled urgency. Industrial screeches drop into grim guitars faster than The Tower of Terror. There's an eerie elegance to James "Munky" Shaffer's riff work as he adds haunting symphonic textures to Skrillex's production just before the guitars explode into one of the band's most cerebral and catchy choruses ever. The brilliance of "Get Up" lies in the blend of raw intensity and refined industrial darkness. This solidifies Korn's status alongside Nine Inch Nails and Tool as one of the most crucial bands to rip rock 'n' roll a new one while pushing it forward. This is new territory for hard rock as a whole, and it's all Korn…

Frontman Jonathan Davis bares his soul with each calculated verse before the danceable mushroom cloud chorus of "Shut the fuck up! Get up!" Davis pushes himself to the brink once more and finds beauty at the end. There's a cinematic vibrancy on the bridge that sees the bassist Reggie "Fieldy" Arvizu and drummer Ray Luzier tearing up the rhythms again like only they can.

Korn have already changed the face of music a couple times; welcome to the future again. Just shut the fuck up and get up before your left in the dust…
