Stillwell: "This is just the beginning"

Stillwell // Blog: Q of Stillwell has recently posted this on Stillwell's blog:

"My adventures with Stillwell." Part 1

So I just completed my 1st Arena tour, opening up for Disturbed & Korn on the 'Music as a Weapon' tour. Before I get ahead of myself, let me start from the beginning so you have a better idea of what's going on. A few years back, the president of Tribal Gear clothing gave me a call and asked if I would be interested in working with Fieldy from Korn on some music.. Obviously I agreed and thus started a 6 year adventure of recording all over the world, while joining Fieldy and the rest of the Korn family on several tours. We recorded on tour buses, trains, in hotel rooms, dressing rooms, boats & planes. From Dubai, Russia, Australia, Germany to Little Rock Arkansas & Mobile Alabama (just to name a few). Throughout the 6 year process we would occasionally leak snippets of songs out and give updates, the very 1st song we did, 'Killing Myself to Live' was the only song we leaked a full version of along with a video that got a great response. In those 6 years of recording we would experiment with all different styles of music and we took different musical approaches than what people would expect from me and Fieldy. I started to sing on songs instead of rappin' and Fieldy played lead guitar (Fieldy is the bass player for Korn, so that's a pretty big shift musically). We wanted to do something different from what was expected from us that was, and still is very important to us, because in all reality, if you want hip hop from me, just listen to Q-Unique and if you want that Korn sound from Fieldy, just listen to Korn. In all of this recording and musical soul searching, Wuv, the drummer from the band P.O.D joined us along with a new face on the scene, our bass player Spider. I named the band Stillwell, paying homage to my hometown of Brooklyn NY (Stillwell avenue goes to Coney Island in Brooklyn). We named our 1st album 'Dirtbag' based on the dirty, 'bluesy' sound of the music, along with dubbing our movement 'Street Metal' based on the musical influences of Hip Hop and Metal that at times are obvious in the songs and at other times not so obvious at the 1st listen. Now, getting back to the beginning of all of this, the 'Music as a Weapon' tour was incredible, sharing the stage with 'In This Moment', 'Sevendust', 'Disturbed' and 'Korn', it was definitely surreal and a true learning experience. The audience was awesome along with the people that showed love & support by either giving props or buying a CD. Starting in June my band Stillwell will be on tour in Europe performing in some of the biggest festivals for rock and metal. This is just the beginning. Thanks to all the Q-Unique fans & family that have supported me and thanks to all the new Stillwell fans showing so much love..

Peace
Q
