Short 'Rock On The Range' review

Review: Korn's pipes work Rock on the Range crowd into a frenzy

Crew Stadium might have been an inopportune locale yesterday evening if End Days indeed had begun. Rock on the Range, three days of rock 'n' roll occupation, featured three stages of cartoonlike satanic icons, musical mayhem, and enough profanity to fill a hundred rap albums. It felt a little like Judgment Day ground zero until about 6:01p.m.

It also entertained an audience of thousands with a roster that ranged from obscure to chart-topping and some incendiary music.

That said, until Korn's final medley late in the evening the biggest ovation was earned by a performance on Scottish highland pipes. Korn lead singer Jonathan Davis convulsed and shook his torso violently but when he strolled out wearing the pipes, he brought the house down. The sound of the instrument and the crowd reaction helped to explain the instrument's historical value leading troops into battle.

Finishing with the groove-full Coming Undone and then the stomping profanity of Y'all Want a Single, Korn elicited sheer pandemonium from a crowd that during downtime appeared toasted from the sunny weather and a day of rocking in front of the three stages.
